Mission Statement

The Iranian Student Cultural & Aesthetic Organization (ISCAO) steadily works toward creating a united Persian community, on and off the UC Davis campus.

We, as a group of Iranian students, founded the organization because assimilation in a foreign land was leading to a loss of heritage.

The primary goal of ISCAO is to educate everyone, including ourselves, about the Persian culture, its practices, and its illustrious history.

With the cooperation of various student organizations and surrounding Persian communities, we hope to achieve our goal through the following activities:

    • Inviting guest lecturers to the UC Davis campus

    • Showing Iranian motion pictures & documentaries

    • Instituting Farsi classes

    • Producing cultural celebrations in honor of Persian holidays

WE hope that with our efforts, we may soon be witnesses to a flourishing community of Persians united in a quest for education and friendship.

Your inputs and suggestions are always welcome. You can contact us through email by visiting the Board Members section.

Please help us serve you better

We would love to hear from you. Please feel free to contact us by email to let us know how we can improve our programs. We encourage constructive criticism, so please feel free if you have any complaints or comments. We are here to serve the Iranian community. Your feedback is very important. Please be a part of this.

Bahareh

Hi all! I am Bahareh and I am a UC Davis Alum and Iranian dance ethusiast! I am looking forward to being one of two Nowrooz show coordinators for ISCAO this year. Currently, I am finishing up my master's thesis at CSUS, teaching a dance series class, and a dance for Nowrooz show. Through ISCAO, I hope to spread knowledge about Iranian culture and dance and keep a collaborative spirit alive in the student community.

Hi. My name is Sadaf Moghimi and I’m a fourth year Biological Sciences major with an emphasis in Molecular Biology. I aspire to be a dentist and hopefully specialize in orthodontics. I have been a part of the California Aggie newspaper for two years and spend my time interning at dental offices and volunteering at retirement homes. I also enjoy traveling mostly to Europe and Iran and I enjoy dance, soccer, and swimming. I am ISCAO’s outreach coordinator for the year and hope to get to know all the members and help them with any visions they have for ISCAO.

Shirin

Cultural and Financial

Shirin Karimi is a second year at UC Davis who is majoring in Nutritional Biochemistry and Biological Psychology and is minoring in Middle Eastern Studies. She was born in Iran and moved here when she was a young child and lived in Boston for a few years before moving to California. She has a lot of passion for public and global health and preventive medicine and hopes to one day practice medicine or become a leader in public health and help people on a global scale in many developing nations throughout the world. Also, aside from her health interests, she has recently become very interested in learning more about her Iranian heritage and culture and to become better able to relate to Iran and its people and feels that through joining ISCAO, she is able to gain a better understanding of such Iranian roots and is hoping that her job as being fundraising coordinator will help her get closer to her goals in this respect.
