About: Afshin Molavi is the author of Persian Pilgrimages: Journeys Across Iran, which was nominated for the Thomas Cook literary travel book of the year. A former Dubai-based correspondent for the Reuters news agency and a regular contributor to The Washington Post from Iran, Mr. Molavi has covered the Middle East and Washington for a wide range of international publications. His articles have appeared in the Financial Times, Businessweek, The New Republic, Foreign Policy, The Christian Science Monitor, The Nation, the Journal of Commerce, The Wilson Quarterly, among others. Born in Iran, but raised and educated in the West, Mr. Molavi holds an M.A. from the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies in Middle East History and International Economics. He has also worked at the International Finance Corporation, the private sector development arm of the World Bank.

About Speaker: Seyed Alavi received a Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State University and a Masters of Fine Art from the San Francisco Art Institute. Alavi’s work is often engaged with the poetics of language and space and their power to shape reality.
He has created site-specific installations for The New Museum of Contemporary Art and Franklin Furnace in New York City; The University Art Museum- Cal State Long Beach; The Museum of Santa Cruz County; The deSaisset Museum; The University Art Museum, Sonoma State; The University Art Museum, Cal State San Bernadino and San Francisco's Capp Street Project….

About: Bruce Behrouz Bahmani is the author of "Rostam: Tales of the Shahnameh" a comic book adaptation.  Helives and writes in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Born in the U.S. in 1961, he moved with his parents to Iran where he lived until he was 18 . He left Iran in 1979 after the revolution. Half-Ghashghai, half-German, he attended Parthian and Iranzamin schools.
The Project: Over 5 years in development, Rostam: Tales of the Shahname, the American comic adaptation of theIranian/Persian epic poem by Ferdowsi has been published by Hyperwerks. Working  with American comic book specialists, this project is an American comic book designed to utilize the medium of the traditional comic book genre to introduce an important Iranian/Persian literary work to the western world.
The Original Poem:
Ferdowsi created the Shahnameh (The King's Letters" over 1,000 years ago and consists of over 60,000 verses taking over 35 years to create. It is the most complete documentation of Pre-Islamic Iranian culture, myth, and folklore, a wonderful world of fantasy and adventure.
